Marco Mazzoni’s work is getting a lot of attention these days, for good reason – it’s exquisitely beautiful, provocavitve, and masterful. Coloured pencils, no less. \u00a0I first heard of him when he was the\u00a0featured artist in Hi-Fructose<\/a>, but have been hearing more and more about him lately, and seeing his work popping up in magazines and all over the internet. This is not entirely unsurprising;\u00a0Mazzoni not only quite talented but impressively \u00a0prolific, and has been exhibiting in multiple galleries over the last year all over Europe & the US.<\/p>\n

A resident of Milan, Mazzoni’s work touches on themes from folklore, mythology, and “references to the Sardinian female-based societies from 16th to the 18th centuries which conserved their culture through the storytelling”. Okay, I’ll admit that I don’t know much about Sardinian history & folklore, but google to the rescue – you can read more here<\/a>. Pretty fertile grounds for art-making, in any case, and Mazzoni certainly makes good use of it.<\/p>\n

Mazzoni has a \u00a0new show opening at\u00a0Roq La Rue Gallery, Seattle on\u00a0June 8th, “Death and the Maiden” – the piece below will be part of that exhibition.<\/p>\n
