That doesn&#8217;t keep me from enjoying their work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bryanolsoncollage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Olson<\/a> is one of those artists. He does hand-made\/ mixed-media collage using a variety of vintage and contemporary sources.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1917\" title=\"Bryan Olson collage\" src=\"http:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-01.jpg\" alt=\"Bryan Olson collage\" width=\"670\" height=\"973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-01.jpg 670w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-01-103x150.jpg 103w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-01-206x300.jpg 206w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently he is 27, lives in North Carolina, and is also a musician. He describes his work variously as &#8220;mixed media\u00a0collage\u00a0landscapes&#8221;, &#8220;vintage surreal sci-fi&#8221;, and \u00a0&#8220;hand-cut ultrastructures&#8221;. That&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve gleaned from the tags <a href=\"http:\/\/glassplanet.tumblr.com\/#\" target=\"_blank\">on Glass Planet<\/a>, his tumblr account,\u00a0anyways.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1918\" title=\"Bryan Olson collage\" src=\"http:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-02.jpg\" alt=\"Bryan Olson collage\" width=\"670\" height=\"921\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-02.jpg 670w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-02-109x150.jpg 109w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/bryan-olson-02-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Vaguely reminiscent of futurist &amp; suprematist approaches to collage, even hints of Berlin Dada &#8211; but ultimately this kind of collage always evokes other collage, how can it not? If you use vintage engravings it looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/search?q=max+ernst+collage&amp;hl=en&amp;safe=off&amp;prmd=imvnso&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=U1_wT5q3HqnZ0QGmqPD6Ag&amp;ved=0CEoQ_AUoAQ&amp;biw=1657&amp;bih=829\" target=\"_blank\">Max Ernst<\/a>, if you use magazine photos it looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/search?hl=en&amp;safe=off&amp;biw=1657&amp;bih=829&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=1&amp;q=hannah+hoch+collage&amp;oq=hannah+hoch+collage&amp;gs_l=img.3..0l2.18575.20899.0.22258.12.12.0.0.0.1.149.826.11j1.12.0...0.0.FxEUoIe1h5c\" target=\"_blank\">Hannah Hoch<\/a>. Does it even matter? I&#8217;m not sure if he&#8217;s one of those people whose work I&#8217;ve seen reshared on countless tumblr and image aggregate sites for years, or if he&#8217;s new at this.
