She got a design degree from Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al but quickly changed gears and became an illustrator. \u00a0This, as it turns out, was an excellent idea.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenault started doing editorial and other illustration work, and in a short space of time got a lot of attention for her work as she won several prestigious competitions including Applied Arts, American Illustration, Communication Arts and Grafika.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1978\" title=\"Isabelle Arsenault illustration\" src=\"http:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/isabelle_arsenault_illustration.jpg\" alt=\"Isabelle Arsenault illustration\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/isabelle_arsenault_illustration.jpg 600w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/isabelle_arsenault_illustration-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/isabelle_arsenault_illustration-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2005 she won the Grand Prix Lux in the illustration category (a very prestigious award in Quebec) as well as the Governor General&#8217;s Award (the most prestigious award in Canada) for her illustrations for her first children&#8217;s book,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/coeur-monsieur-Gauguin-French-Edition\/dp\/2895401837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le c\u0153ur de monsieur Gauguin<\/a>. Yes, you read that correctly : her first children&#8217;s book won the Prix Lux <em>and<\/em> the GG award.<\/p>\n<p><em>Le c\u0153ur de monsieur Gauguin<\/em>\u00a0is the rather sad (and mostly fictional) but uplifting tale of the young <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Gauguin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Gauguin<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; Young Paul Gauguin sailed from Denmark to Peru with his family: his mother, his father, his sister, Marie, and his odd-looking, imaginary orange dog. At first being on the boat was fun; he loved to walk his dog on the ship\u2019s bridge. Then one day, Paul found his mother in tears; his father had died.<\/p>\n<p>When the ship docked, Paul refused to leave. Then an old man took him by the hand and in a few brush strokes, he had stirred a passion that lay just beneath the boy\u2019s surface. Sometimes she feels like a bird, flying north in the spring and south in the fall. Sometimes she feels like a jack rabbit living in an abandoned burrow, as her family moves into an empty house near the fields. Super-talented, prolific, versatile, and all-round fantastic.
