These peculiar transformative sculptures are fairly opaque to me in terms of meaning but as visual object I find them, well, really neato.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2492\" title=\"Chie Aoki 01\" alt=\"Chie Aoki \" src=\"http:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-01.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-01.jpg 600w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-01-99x150.jpg 99w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-01-198x300.jpg 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All I can find out about Aoki is that she is a 29-year old and graduated from the Kanazawa College of Art from the Craft department. I&#8217;m pretty sure there&#8217;s more info on Aoki online somewhere, but probably in Japanese, at a guess. I&#8217;m kind of reminded of No-Face from the Miyazaki movie <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0245429\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spirited Away<\/a> but that&#8217;s probably just because I&#8217;m seeing a Japanese artist and it makes me think of other Japanese cultural references.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2493\" title=\"Chie Aoki 03\" alt=\"Chie Aoki\" src=\"http:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-03.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"814\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-03.jpg 600w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-03-110x150.jpg 110w, https:\/\/greynotgrey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Chie-Aoki-03-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a quiet lushness in these surreal figures that plays with the synthetic\/organic boundary in a very visually appealing way.
