I&#8217;ve been super busy with home &amp; work but that&#8217;s no excuse, right? There&#8217;s some value to that. \u00a0Sure, many \u00a0are crap but it&#8217;s people starting out so that&#8217;s to be expected. Nobody likes to wake up to see their front door toy tagged but \u00a0whatever. I don&#8217;t hate tags but I do look at pieces as more impressive, but maybe that&#8217;s because my background is fine arts instead of graf. I don&#8217;t look down on graf \u00a0(at all) and actively love street art (I&#8217;m beginning to understand the reasons for the division between street art and graffiti even if I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s that important) but the thought that tags are essentially calligraphy is a very charming one.<\/p>\n<p>In any case this is me thinking about all that, playing with acrylic markers and my sketchbook. It was on <a href=\"http:\/\/imprint.printmag.com\/books\/christian-acker-flips-the-script-on-graffiti\/\" target=\"_blank\">imprint<\/a>, about Christian Acker.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe tap keyboards far more frequently than we touch pen to paper,\u201d designer and author\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adnauseum.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Christian Acker<\/a>\u00a0says in his introduction to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Flip-Script-Christian-P-Acker\/dp\/1584234601\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1362955724&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=flip+the+script\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Flip the Script: A Guidebook for Aspiring Vandals and Typographers\u00a0<\/i><\/a>(Ginko Press, 2013). \u201cGraffiti may well be the last great execution of highly practiced penmanship in popular culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Flip the Script<\/i>\u00a0seeks to contextualize the tagging styles of American graffiti writers from different periods and regions in visual history. This is the first book of its kind, and it is vast in its scope.\u00a0<i>Flip the Script<\/i>\u00a0documents over 500 signatures, or \u201ctags,\u201d the calling card of the street writer.
